Pick of the week: Minnesota -7 @ Syracuse 1000 Points

Minnesota returns 18 starters. Syracuse is breaking in a new QB.

Washington +17.5 @ home versus LSU 200 Points

SEC teams are just like the people of south that follow them: they never leave the region and they would prefer to sit at home and play with one another.

LSU's game in Seattle is farthest it's ever gone to play a football game and LSU tends to struggle against Pac 10 opponents. Does anyone remember the Sept 2004 game where the Oregon State kicker missed three PATs and let LSU sneak away with a 22-21 victory in OT?

The SEC is all about defense and running the ball; the Pac 10 is all about wide-open offenses and passing the football.

Worthy of note:

The SEC leads the Pac-10 60-38-5 (.607). However, over the past 11 years (1998 - 2008), the Pac-10 actually leads the SEC 10-7 (.588).

This is a big game for the Huskies who hope to usher in a new era under Coach Sark. With all of the turnover in the coaching ranks on both sides, I can't imagine that either team is as prepared for the other as they would like to be. Just the same, I have to think that the oddsmakers are just as confused on this one.

LSU's performance last week was nothing to write home about.

Expect more drop-back passing from Jake Locker and possibly a little more aggression out of the UW defense. Huskies have more injuries and less talent. But they also have something to prove. And that's all they need to cover.

Washington State +17 @ home versus Stanford 200 Points

Stanford was 1-6 on the road last year with their one road victory coming over 0-12 UW. This years Cougs will be better, but not good enough to win. However, they will be good enough to cover. And that's all we care about here on the Court.

Alabama -6.5 @ Virginia Tech 500 Points

Alabama's 3-4 defense is way too much for VA Tech. Alabama was big in their opener last year. Look for more of same this year.
